As we pull onto a road it’s lined with cars on both sides. The four of us get out of the car, and begin approaching a huge house. Groups of people cover the front yard, some yelling, a few are chugging from a keg and most of them are socializing. We walk up the path way and into the house where loud music and the smell of alcohol fills the air.
The tall red head I bumped into at the administration office approaches Kaden “babeee I’ve been waiting for you get here, who are they” she snarls pointing at me and Kam. “My little sister and her friend” he shrugs in reply. The girl walks closer to me and eyes me, “aren’t you that girl who bumped into me earlier” she slurs. “Uh- yes I really didn’t mean too” i admit. “If you haven’t figure it out already I’m Ember Jones and if you ever make that mistake again I will make sure your years at Florida State is a living hell” she retorts. Great I’ve already pissed of the golden girl who I’ve also figured out is Kadens girlfriend, this is just my luck. Just as I was about to walk away Kaden grabs Embers wrist turning her towards him “if you ever talk to her like that again I will never speak to you” he demands at her. The look on her face is priceless. She looks back at me rolling her eyes before storming away.
“Ember is a bitch, I’ve never liked her but for some reason Kaden keeps her around” Luca whisper shouts over the music. Kambrie has already made her way to the kitchen to grab a drink, Ember and Kaden are now sitting on a couch talking to a bunch of people. Luca grabs my arm pulling me towards the kitchen grabbing us each a drink, “now that we have drinks let’s join the rest in the living room” he smiles at me. Im kinda just following him around like a lost puppy at this point but at least he’s nice to be around.
Luca gestures me to take a seat with him on the couch across from Ember and Kaden, not really knowing anyone I do just that. Ember is shooting me glares the whole time and it’s honestly annoying me. I take a few sips from the drink Luca gave me and I notice that Kaden hasn’t had a single drink since we got here. I never took him for the sober at a party, I figured he would be one of those guys who gets completely plastered and makes an ass out of themselves.
I mostly sit in silence listening to everyone else make small talk since I don’t know anyone here. That’s until a guy approaches me “hey! You’re the girl from the coffee shop I never got you name, I’m Giovanni but my friends call me Gio!” He shouts over the music. I notice that Kadens body shifts forward on the couch and Luca moves a tad closer to me. “Oh hey! Nice to see you again, the names Saige” I smile at him. Giovanni decides to take the empty spot on the left of me. He makes some small talk with me just asking about when my classes start and what year I’m in. I find out that he starts the same day as I do and he’s also in his first year. It honestly feels great making new friends before the school year formally begins.
Luca gets up from the couch without saying anything which was kinda odd being that he’s been dragging me with him all over this party since we got here but I didn’t think much of it. While Luca is gone Ember insists on a game of truth or dare, we all agree to play. Before the game starts everyone says their name that way the person asking knows who their asking. In the circle it’s Kaden, Ember, Kayla, Collin, Molly, Giovanni, me and another girl named Ivy. Right before the game begins Luca takes his seat next to me. “Collin truth or dare” Kayla asks him and he responds “dare”. “I dare you take take 5 shots of straight vodka” she laughs as he does the dare. Luca whispers to me that Collin is a light weight and 5 shots of vodka will have him falling over in no time.
A few more people take turns asking other people truths and daring the few that choose dare. Ember looks at me and smirks and proceeds to ask me “Saige, truth or dare”, I contemplate my answer before choosing “truth” I say with a smile hoping she’s not about to ruin my life. “Are you a virgin” she ask raising one of her eyebrows and tilting her head to the side. Kaden leans to the edge of the couch searching my face for a reaction as Luca whispers to me that I don’t have to answer. “Yes” I deadpan. A bunch of gasps can be heard from the group, my cheeks instantly turning red as Ember is laughing. “Ember truth or dare” Lucas asks her with a serious tone. She replies with “truth” and he smirks before asking “is it true that you’re a whore who has basically slept with the whole football team” her face turns cherry red and she flips him off and mumbles “I’m not a whore”.
Collin is completely plastered and stands up to approach me, I feel a little nervous. He then goes on to ask me “truth or dare” scared to have to confess something again I choose dare. “I dare you to take your bra off” he snorts. A loud infuriated voice can be heard “that’s enough for tonight we’re going home” Kaden jolts towards me grabbing my wrist dragging me through the crowd of people. Luca follows behind after finding Kambrie who was dancing on a table, she’s wasted. As we make it closer to the car Kaden opens the passenger side angrily gesturing me to get in and slams the door. Lucas and Kam climb into the back. Ember has followed us and now is in a pretty heated argument with Kaden. I watch him throw his hands in the air a few times and point back at the house. She looks like she’s throwing a tantrum as if she’s a toddler.
Kaden finally walks away from her getting into the driver side of the car, he puts the car in drive and speeds off down the road. I’m a bit scared but I don’t think he’s gonna kill us, for some reason I trust him. I look in the back seat to check on Kam and she’s already passed out. Luca gives me a warm assuring smile and I turn around looking out the passenger window. We approach a stop light and I feel a hand on my arm, I look over and Kaden is staring at me with a worried look, “are you okay” he mutters and I just shake my head I’m still trying to figure out why he reacted with such rage over the game.
I pull out my phone to see I have a message from an unknown number that reads “hey saige, it’s Gio I got your number from your friend I hope you don’t mind” I smile down at my phone and reply back to him “not at all! Sorry we left so soon”. I clicked the lock button on my phone and shortly later we arrived back to the beach house. I get out and Kaden follows behind as Luca helps Kam out and into the house. I walk into the kitchen grabbing a bottle of water and a snack. “I’m sorry about what happened at the party” Kaden says in a clam tone. It wasn’t even thirty minutes ago and he was in complete rage, he’s so confusing. “It’s fine” I reply in a short tone.
Before I can exit his voice catches my attention again “saige you don’t have to worry about them, it won’t happen again I swear” he affirms. I simply nod my head and find my way upstairs. I check on Kam to make sure she made it to her bed, and sure enough she’s knocked out. I walk into my room changing into some more comfortable clothes. I grab my book from my bedside table and pick up where I left off once again.
After hours of reading I check the time and it’s now 1:30 am, I set the book back down and click off the lights ready to get this night over with, I pull the covers over me and close my eyes falling asleep.
