I took a deep breath, looked into Luna's glowing, frightened eyes, and sighed, asking her to answer the thousands of questions racing through my mind.
V: How is this even possible? tries to comprehend
L: Don’t be scared, it's me! Please don't kill me! laughs
V: Haha, very funny, smartass.
L: Okay, maybe not funny right now, but hey, what do you think? Who else could have a rear covered in such shiny feathers?
V: Yeah, seriously though, you need to explain what's happening. I’m convinced now, you're definitely not human.
L: Yes, you’ve grasped that part, but it doesn’t end here. Alpha and Alvin are also a kind of Heiliant.
V: Wait, so I can turn into something like this too? in shock
L: Are you even listening to me? We’re not sure yet if you're a nine-tailed one, which is why we’re not suggesting a transformation just yet. Merlin is the one who will handle that.
V: Merlin? Are Alvin and Alpha like you?

V: Yeah, yeah. But who’s Merlin? You still haven’t said.
L: You’ll find out tomorrow once we get there. But I can tell you this much: he’s like the person you’ve always wanted to be.
V: What do you mean?
L: He’s a magician, in his field, of course. laughs
V: Okay, now I’m even more excited to meet him.
L: Slow down a bit. He’s not exactly someone you should be thrilled about; he’s dangerous. We’re just going to him temporarily so he can teach you.
V: What do you mean dangerous? What do you mean by "teach me"? Please explain.
L: I’m not the one who should be discussing or explaining this; Alpha will tell you when the time comes. sighs What you need to know is to keep your powers under control so no damage is done.
V: My powers?
L: Yes, we’re not sure if you’ve fully transformed yet, but if Victor is after you, you must be of a powerful kind.
V: A wolf then?
L: No, but you’re a fox.
V: Hmm, should I be impressed by that?
L: Yes, because foxes—or rather demons—are the most powerful of us, and there have only been three. One of them was Alpha's sister.
V: Wait, how does that work? Alpha is a wolf, though?
L: Just because they share the same bloodline doesn’t mean they have the same spirit. It doesn’t work like that.
V: Explain then, I’m trying to understand.
L: Okay, so, in our childhood, we are all gifted a guardian spirit. But not everyone—only Heiliant. The spirit comes from a dead body, passed through some people’s genes, or gifted to others at their most vulnerable moment by an animal. But of course, not all spirits are good.
V: Like those chasing us?
L: No, their situation is a bit different. They’re Sidia, which means they’ve transformed.
V: Transformed? But you said that wasn’t something that happens later.
L: It doesn’t. Victor and his sister Victoria took them from Dr. Quinlan's hospital and experimented on them. They can’t transform like us, but they can use our powers for a certain amount of time. They’re not very effective, but they’ve gotten much stronger over the years.
V: What are we going to do, Luna? What kind of mess have I gotten into?
L: Just do as I say. And after you meet Merlin, you have to be very careful. He’s also a fox, and he can manipulate you.
V: Alright, I got it. Can you tell me more about foxes?
L: You’re divided into three groups, actually. Your tail count determines this: two-tailed ones, four-tailed ones, and finally, the nine-tailed ones, who are the most dangerous. They can dominate someone, completely change their thoughts, manipulate them, and alter an event in their mind however they want.
V: I’m really creeped out by this. Who could act so crazily?
L: Well, um, you should never bring this up unless Alpha tells you, but his sister Harley was one of the three.
V: I remember her. We used to play together as kids, but then she suddenly disappeared. What happened to her, Luna?
L: Merlin did something to her, something that hurt her. Alpha had to lock her up somewhere to keep her safe. She’s been locked away for years, and we’ve heard there’s a dangerous creature guarding her. Alpha put a guard there so Merlin wouldn’t get to her.
V: This story is getting more and more interesting. Can’t you tell me more?
L: Sorry, V, that’s not my story to tell. Plus, it’s really late now, we need to sleep. Tomorrow at dawn, we’ll wake up, find Alvin and the others, and set out.
V: You’re like the commercial break in the best part of a movie, Moon Girl. laughs
L: Haha, alright, alright. Now we really need to sleep. I’ll notify our people to prepare.
With the growing number of questions in my head, Luna chose to remain silent on many of them, opting for the right to stay quiet. I lay down in bed, deep in thought about what I had learned and what I was about to discover. Despite the excitement, I closed my eyes and forced myself to sleep.
