On the way home, I was telling Luna what had happened while reliving that moment in my mind. Every cell in my body kept replaying the experience as if I were living it again. I could tell from her large, frightened eyes that she didn’t believe me. Even though she said it was just trauma and that such a thing was impossible, she was trying hard to comfort me.
Luna: "Okay, everything’s fine, but why did you pour my milkshake all over yourself? It was my favorite flavor, too."
Violet: "But he was talking so arrogantly, I couldn’t help it," she giggled.
Luna: "Alright then, how about a pajama party at my place tonight?"
Violet: "To relieve stress after all this? Of course, yes!"
So we stopped by the market and bought bags full of snacks. Then we stopped by my house as I needed to pick up a few things. I went upstairs and told Luna to wait, that I’d be right back. After packing what I needed into my backpack, I went down the stairs. I suddenly paused as my ears started ringing intensely. I was swaying side to side, losing my balance. I heard Luna honk the horn and quickly went downstairs. "I'm ready, we can go," I said, and we set off.
When we arrived at Luna's house, I noticed a faint fruit scent and asked her, "What’s that smell?"
Luna: "I got a vapor machine for the house to help me relax. It releases scented vapor every hour."
Violet: "It’s very refreshing; I like it," I replied, realizing that I had become very sensitive to smells. Even at home, I could sense scents very strongly, and it was the same here. We prepared our snacks, chose a movie, and set everything up. Watching a movie was so much fun because we would chat during every scene and even make jokes during the scariest parts.**
Luna's phone rang. It was Alvin. Luna immediately answered and asked if it was something important. Then, she laughed and said he was coming over before turning to me.
Luna: "Hey, V, Alvin is in the backyard. You don’t mind if I leave you alone for a bit, do you?" she asked with a cute look.
Violet: "Of course not. That’s what friends are for. And tell that Romeo of yours to have Juliet home before midnight," I said with a laugh.
Luna: "Smirking, 'As you wish, my lady.'"
I started tidying up and, feeling tired, decided to take a shower. I left the door to the backyard slightly open so that Luna could come in if I fell asleep. I took a shower and then lay down to read a book.
Luna's perspective:
What was he doing here at this hour? This guy never learns. He’s going to ruin everything, I thought to myself.
I went outside, worried, and approached Alvin. First, I hugged him, then asked:
Luna: "What are you doing here at this hour?"
Alvin: "I came to see the daughter of the moon. Is that a problem, miss?"
Luna: "Oh really? Weren’t you howling at the full moon, you little wolf?"
Alvin: "If you yell a bit more, Violet will learn everything and have an anaphylactic shock."
Luna: "Is that so? Then why are you here?"
Alvin: "Alpha says we should take her away from here. Soon, she’ll find out on her own, and it won’t be good."
Luna: "You’re right, but even for me, this will be traumatic when she finds out. She’s not ready yet. We need more time."
Alvin: "I’m sorry, but if Victor catches her before we do and does what he did to those three idiots, it won’t be pretty."
Luna: "So, what are we going to do?"
Alvin: "Show yourself to her. Tell her this is the world we live in. We don’t have much time."
Luna: "Alright, I get it. It’s for her own good, I suppose."
Alvin: "We’re taking her to Merlin anyway. At least she’ll have a lot to learn there."
Luna: "Merlin? Have you all gone mad? No way, absolutely not."
Alvin: "I know you’re scared, but trust me. He can show you the truth, just like he showed me."
Luna: "What do you mean by that? When did you meet him?"
Alvin: "My dear, you’re asking too many questions. This isn’t the place. Our priority is Violet."
Luna: "We’ll talk about this later. I’m going now."
Alvin: "My moon is shining bright tonight. It’s time to howl," he smirked.
Luna: "Beware the wrath of the Griffin, young wolf," she smiled.
After Alvin left, I went inside, anxious about how to explain this to her. It’s like trying to tell someone who believes the Earth is flat that it’s actually round. I could talk to her calmly at first and then show her later. If she doesn’t get scared, maybe it will work. But if she panics, then God help us.
Violet's perspective:
I had fallen asleep while reading a book. I woke up with a start, seeing Luna standing over me with frightened eyes. "Are you okay? What happened?" I asked. "V, you need to wake up. We need to talk," she said, her hands trembling. I got up and washed my face. "It's 4 AM; I hope it’s not bad news," I said. "No, just listen to me. I need to explain something to you," she said. I was scared. She was speaking with such fear that I thought she was about to confess something terrible.
Luna: "Lately, have you been feeling more sensitive to everything?"
Violet: "A bit more than usual, why?"
Luna: "There’s a difficult reason for that, and I’m struggling to explain it to you."
Violet: "You’re scaring me. Calm down and explain it slowly."
Luna: "Do you remember Grandpa Frank Riotta? I mean, do you remember why he disappeared?"
Violet: "Yes, he vanished, and we accepted it for years."
Luna: "Actually, it was the same man who made him disappear... and his sister, Victoria."
Violet: "How do you know this?"
Luna: "I know because they’re after you for the same reason they were after your grandfather."
Violet: "What is it? What did they do to him?"
Luna: "Look, V, we don’t live in the world you think we do. It’s about these people... Ah, it’s a bit complicated."
Violet: "Can you just explain it properly now?" she said, getting angry.
Luna: "Alright, alright, calm down. Heiliant is the name given to beings like us, meaning soulless, their souls have been stolen. You could say we appear human, but we belong to one of the five kingdoms."
Violet: "Explain the kingdoms. What do they have to do with me? I don’t get it."
Luna: "Raposa, Lupo, Sparrow, Phoenix, and the fifth kingdom that’s forbidden to speak of—Ryu. If you listen, it’ll be easier to explain."
Violet: "What do they mean?"
Luna: "They represent the four elements: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. It’s in their genes—the fox, wolf, griffin, and phoenix. And the dragons. As for how it relates to you, Violet, your grandfather was one of them."
Violet: "No-no-no, this is nonsense. My grandfather disappeared and died, not because of some cult freaks."
Luna: "This isn’t a cult, V. Let me show you."
Violet: "What do you mean, show me? You mean to say...?"
Luna: "Do you trust me?"
Violet: "I do, but you’re scaring me right now."
Luna: "I just want you to see it. Afterward, I’ll explain everything."
Violet: "Alright..."
I looked at her with frightened eyes. Her skin was turning red and orange, her face taking on the features of an animal. I was struggling to believe what I was seeing. I felt a great warmth and a burst of light. And those were the last sensations I remember.
