You can't even imagine what you might think on the brink of an unfinished reckoning while time ticks away. Perhaps just seconds or minutes later, I might not have been alive; all the friendships I built could have vanished, and the place I called home could have turned to ash. All of these were, of course, scenarios of annihilation. I used to be a normal girl with a pretty boring monotony in my life, living much like my peers. Then one day, one of my friends taught me to look beyond the door to another world, and here we are today.
A girl who cannot cope with the loss of her father and seeks revenge, and a brother I have never known. Oh, how I wish I could get to know him and create memories together; I hope he thinks good things about me. I am constantly on the brink of being kidnapped, and my life is always under threat, which stems from me being a devilish fox.
Now, let's get to the main issue: we were a group of kids forming bonds of friendship with a bunch of sidia. Over time, we witnessed the strength of the bond among them and gained important insights into how that bond could grow stronger. Ultimately, it’s hard not to envy how they held onto each other despite not having a blood connection. I can say that I learned something from each of them during our time together.
For example, Veronica was truly the smartest among them; Annabeth's sharpness shone through her. Thanks to her, I learned to evaluate events from different perspectives; I could now think deeper, make decisions, and analyze things carefully. Additionally, Magnus was the most naive and emotional among them. He might have had a large physique, but underneath it was the innocence of a baby rabbit. He looked at everything with compassion, believing that every living being—be it plant, animal, heiliant, or sidia—had feelings. Nature was like a part of him, and he would wake up early in the morning, go to the backyard, sit cross-legged, and sincerely listen to the sounds of the forest. Some mornings, I would join him, and thanks to him, I learned to listen well, to be attentive, and to interpret.
For instance, my ability to focus while quietly listening had improved; my attention no longer scattered so quickly. I learned to make sense of the sounds I heard. The bird that cried out painfully no longer sounded like it was screaming to me; instead, I now understood it was welcoming its chicks out of the egg. I could discern whether the sound of the waterfall was coming from a source or if it was filling a space, whether it was fresh water or saltwater, hot or cold. This had become a useful trait for me; I no longer listened to sounds flatly; I understood what each sound wanted to convey to me.
And finally, Aiden—oh, how can I describe him? He was like a flawless reflection of perfection. His ideas were very deep and meaningful, and his understanding and way of thinking were different from all of ours. He was as cunning as a fox and as wild as a wolf. Watching him while hunting was very enjoyable. Heiliants could not continue their lives solely on human food after a certain point because, due to the variables in our anatomy, the vitamins and other things we needed could not be provided by human food. Therefore, we had to hunt and act in accordance with our nature. Aiden could compete with Luna in this regard; Luna was the only heiliant species, Gryffin, that could hunt silently. Aiden could hunt just like her; he mimicked her hunting style, and even though he wasn't a heiliant, he had a wolf gene in his DNA. This made him wilder than he should have been. I had the opportunity to watch him many times because I was curious about why he hunted alone, and he taught me a lot. When combined with the other things I learned, it resulted in an extraordinary hunter.
A hunt would be one of the best moments to catch and eat it until it realizes it is the prey. Aiden had figured this out quickly and had developed his skills through practice. One day, while showing me this, all he did was choose a potential prey, stand two meters away, and wait for the right moment. After healing them, their true powers had slowly begun to settle; Veronica could manipulate fire, which is why she had attuned with the phoenix. Magnus's ability to manipulate with his sixth sense made sense for his attunement with Gryffin. And Aiden was like a chameleon, changing shape and able to turn into anything in his vicinity; his skin could change color, which made me question the oddity of his attunement with a wolf, but perhaps it could be something inherited from his ancestors.
As for us, everyone had somehow improved themselves and added something to their character after what had happened. Alpha no longer leaned towards such an authoritarian style; he was more sincere and genuine. Although Alvin did not compromise his childlike side, marriage had established the meaning of family bonds for him. Luna, despite her nurturing personality, had started to give space for those around her to learn, think, and make decisions for themselves. And Merlin, oh, it seemed to be getting even harder to understand him; I had witnessed him making excuses and retreating to his cave many times, acting independently of his own personality. Sometimes he would have meaningless outbursts, yelling at all of us and creating unnecessary tension. When I asked him about it, he said, "This is what I am, Violet. You can either be happy with it or stay away." This was not something he would typically say; during such moments, I really wanted to hug him, let him pour out his feelings, and listen to him, but this Merlin in front of me looked too angry to allow that.
He raised his voice at the most unexpected moments, displaying dominant behaviors and surprising me and the others with details that would never cross my mind. Alpha had said that other Merlins had also started to go crazy at such a point, but that ours would not, as he was intelligent. Although I believed this for a long time, it had lost its significance; he had become a wild and complex person right before my eyes. It was as if he had taken on many tasks and responsibilities and was drowning among them. Although I did not like this situation, I stayed by his side as much as I could, and we were constantly doing activities together. We organized movie nights, played games, and hunted together; in fact, I could say we had become a family.
And the main point erupted with the arrival of that moment; Milan was standing right at the border, looking at us with a threatening gaze while holding a gun to my brother's head. We girls circled around from the back and took our positions as we had agreed to be able to draw them out, just as Milan's voice began to rise.
Milan: You have three minutes to come here and get Hector, the clock is ticking, freaks.
Alpha: How can you stand talking in such a shrill and disgusting voice?
Magnus: Haven't you learned anything from Milan's father?
Alvin: The little girl seems to have taken on the role of a superhero *laughs*.
Milan: *pulls the trigger of the gun* Do I look like I'm playing games with you, freaks? Simple logic: give me Rein Orka, and I'll bring my father back to life, and you can take him.
Merlin: I'm sorry, but the one who taught you math has serious psychological issues.
Aiden: I don't know what you think, but Rein Orka is gone.
Milan: What do you mean gone?! *steps inside slowly*
Alpha: Well, Raya eliminated him for a while; he will only reappear when Harley finds a way to escape, which is not even possible for a long century.
Milan: So what does that mean? Will I never see my father and aunt again?
At that moment, we had already approached from behind and I started to speak.
Violet: I'm sorry, Milan, but Rein Orka is a tremendous power and it ruins lives for things that cannot be brought back.
Aiden: This sphere, which initially consisted of a dead Dragon, was later used in the creation of the Heiliants.
Alvin: So freak, drop that weapon; no one is coming back.
Veronica: This isn't you, Milan.
Milan: How well do you know me, Veronica? You spent more time with my father than I did; you stole the time I should have spent with him, and oh my god, you caused Violet's death, and you parasites are now babbling to me about how I can't bring him back.
Magnus: But this is the order now, Milan; we can't change it.
Hector: Milan, I think this is it; you need to finish it.
Milan: I'm sorry, Hector, but this was until I thought I had a chance; if there's no way, it must be life for a life.
Hector: What? But we didn't agree on this! I'll drag you out!
Milan: You caused my father's death, and there must be a consequence, right? *turning to Violet*
Violet: Get that weapon away from there; it didn't do anything to you.
Milan: Yes, it didn't, but my father hadn't done anything to you yet either.
Alpha: Milan, you don't know what you're doing; you can't think straight.
Luna: I can see in your heart that you don't actually want to harm him; this was a trade, wasn't it?
Milan: Not anymore, dear Luna, and I think a price must be paid. *shoots Hector in the head*
Violet: No!! You vile creature, I will kill you!
At that moment, he had already transformed, and everyone's eyes had turned wild; we suddenly jumped on him, and while everyone struggled to tear him apart, we realized there was a shield keeping us away from him.
Milan: You fools thought I would come here so straightforwardly? *throws Hector's body at them* Here, it's yours now; we are even.
Merlin: You really are Victor's daughter, as selfish, ruthless, and psychopathic as he is.
Aiden: You took the life of an innocent; damn you, creature, and it wasn't even his fault.
Violet: I'm counting the seconds until I tear you apart and devour each piece savagely, Milan; this is no longer a matter of life.
Milan: Bla bla bla, just empty words and freakish movements; the game ends here, and you have lost.
Alpha: Not yet, you cursed con artist! *breaks the electronic mechanism*
Violet: Now, who can take you from my hands? *starts to choke him with telekinesis*
At that moment, Merlin had transformed and intervened, grabbing Milan by the throat and sinking his teeth into him. When he turned to give us a glance, I heard him say to me, "You shouldn't be the one to commit this brutality." His mind was always open to me. He then ran off with Milan into the dark and deep part of the forest; we could all hear the screams and Milan's cries of pain. When Merlin returned, his mouth, face, and body were covered in blood, and we could understand from this that a brutality had taken place.
Luna: Merlin? Are you okay?
Merlin: Believe me, Luna, this will be the last thing you ask. I just want to clean myself. *enters the house*
Alpha: Hey V, we should arrange a funeral for him.
Magnus: *crying* He was my friend.
Violet: *crying* I know, Magnus. I'm so sorry for this.
And we barely managed to pull ourselves together to arrange a funeral for him. After we buried him, that house and its boundaries felt like a cursed structure to us; I didn't want to live there or stay there anymore. Just then, Alpha, who was thinking the same thing as me, spoke up.
Alpha: Luna, do you think the Gryffins would accept visitors?
Luna: My family lives there, and they would be happy to host us. What do you have in mind?
Alpha: Actually, it could be a journey for Magnus, Veronica, and Aiden to learn about their origins. Who knows, getting away from this place and learning our history up close might do us all good.
Veronica: That would really be great; I didn't want to get lost in this brutality.
Magnus: Why do I have origins?
Luna: Because you were able to harmonize with Gryffin, which means that this blood exists in one of your ancestors.
Magnus: Ah, now I understand.
Veronica: Aiden? What do you say?
Aiden: I'm in. Any plan to get us out of here works for me; this place feels scary and like a den of slaughter now.
At that moment, Alvin was coming from Merlin's side.
Alvin: Oh my god, that's really bad, V. I tried, but the brutality in his eyes doesn't seem to go away.
Violet: Oh, that was too much even for him. I'll take care of it; thanks, Alvin.
As I walked over to him with heavy and cautious steps, I could hear Merlin's murmurs, and I just listened.
Merlin:Ah, I feel like I'm losing my mind. These illusions, these memories, they don't belong to me, do they, Caesar?
Oh my god, when I looked through the crack in the door to see who I was talking to, I saw Merlin, who was almost in tears and trembling with anger. I had never seen him so helpless before. I wanted to go to him, but in this state, it was uncertain whether he would want me, so I pulled the door and returned to the others.
Alpha: So, who is ready for the sea voyage?
Alvin: Captain, can I be the one? Luna, you can be my second captain! *joyfully*
Luna: Why do I have to be the second captain? Let it be Veronica! *laughs*
Veronica: Oh my god, you will be a crew too!
Aiden: I can be Jack Sparrow, yay!
Violet: He has to be a captain somewhere at the top! *laughs*
Magnus: So, are we going, crew?
Alpha: Hey ho, get out of the way!!
At that moment, Merlin;
Caesar: You tricked him well.
Merlin: Oh, this is just a role, Caesar. I’m trying to get to know my enemy well before we move on to our real plan, and even though it may take some time, I can see that they are now in a state where they can disperse at any moment.
Caesar: That’s why I chose you. The previous Merlins went mad and killed themselves, but you are different. If we understand each other well, we can regain control of the nine realms.
Merlin: I swear I will take back what they stole from me and my family, and Caesar, there’s one point you missed: I am not like the other Merlins, and I will never be. They may truly be wizards or kinetic manipulators, but I am one of three, and I will use this to the best of my ability.
Caesar: That’s why you need to be careful of Sly. Even if Violet doesn’t understand, Sly is clever and will figure it out quickly. You must proceed with very careful steps.
Merlin: How hard can it be to realize that there’s another devilish fox in front of them?
Caesar: Don’t expose yourself. First, we need to obtain serum from a Gryffin heart to implement the other steps. This is the easiest part.
Merlin: And then?
Caesar: A feather from a Phoenix and, of course, Rein Orka.
Merlin: Rein Orka, yes, that part will be challenging, but I think I can handle the rest.
Caesar: We will talk again when the time is right, after they return.
Merlin: "Concordia completus est," "Aequilibrium inveni," "Anima et corpus meum vulpi pertinent," "Domum tuam revertor."
From Violet's perspective;
Violet: Yes, crew, are we ready?
Alvin: No, Merlin is missing.
Alpha: Oh my god, someone should teach this guy to arrive on time.
Veronica: Here he comes.
Aiden:Come on, big guy, time is passing.
Merlin: Are we going on a journey?
Magnus: Can you negotiate with the Gryffins?
Merlin: You must be joking! *happy*
Aiden: Hey ho, hoist the sails, you stinking sailors!
Veronica: He can’t get out of character! *laughs*
Luna:Hahhahaha!
Alpha:What do you say about being the second captain, Aiden?
Aiden: Really? *joyfully*
Alpha: Yes, come on, you take the helm!
And the doors to a new realm and a new adventure have been opened for us. As I set out on this journey, looking back at what I left behind, there were my memories, my innocently deceased brother, a brutality, a mad wizard, and new friendships. But now, in front of me, it had turned into a journey of discovering the new secrets of this new world.
Yes, we have reached the end of the second book. If you have read this far and enjoyed the story, I am so happy; I have long wanted to write and finish this narrative.
Don't worry, the series consists of 7 books.
In "Harmony: The Gryffin," the prominent characters will be Luna, Alvin, Aiden, and Violet, and you will read about the events that occur among them. The story will again begin by recounting its history and what happened in the past, then it will connect to the ending here, and you will read the rest of the story and how Merlin turns into a villain.
