Day by day, the mutated genes in their bodies were multiplying and spreading disease, causing them harm. We had even built a quarantine hut for them. The burns that started on Aiden's arms had left him weak, and his fever had risen to an incredible degree, showing no signs of stopping. Veronica was looking after all of them with compassion, and we were bringing them fresh water and food, as well as giving them medicine. Even if we managed to get by like this for a few days, later on, when Alpha brought them dinner, he said that Veronica had coughed into her hand and it was stained with blood, and she fainted.
With this happening, Alpha joined them, and together with Merlin, we worked day and night to find a treatment. We finally felt we were close to finding a cure. This new antidote, which was fermented with their original blood and exposed to freezing cold, would first be injected into the bloodstream, and then, theoretically, I hoped it would work. After that, red blood cells, which we had sharpened with lemon, would be taken orally to promote blood regeneration. Of course, before all this, we needed to remove each of their deformed body parts and take away their infected skin; explaining this to them was a bit difficult.
Merlin prepared the medicines and set up a sterile environment, taking a test tube and placing it in the testing chamber. If the resulting values gave us the desired results, we could quickly apply the antidote to them. Alpha was luckier than the others because the infection was not spreading in him; it was causing local decay. And since it was original, it was not passing into his blood, which made him fortunate and more likely to be saved. However, the same could not be said for the others; it would be a difficult surgery, especially for Aiden, as the infection could enter his lungs as it progressed. It was just a matter of time; it had started on his arms and was spreading. Veronica had sat and cried for days, and we were all truly saddened by this situation. We were working day and night to do everything we could. And when the results finally came out, we realized that we had managed to produce a successful antidote. It was time to explain this process to them. We went upstairs and, taking Alvin and Luna with us, went to their side.
Luna: Hey Merlin, will it work?
Alvin: It has to work, Luna, otherwise Alpha won't hesitate to infect all of us, I'm sure of it.
Violet: Don't worry, it passed the test, so theoretically, yes, it will work.
Merlin: I don't understand why you doubt me so much. If it wasn't going to work, I wouldn't have come here to explain it, right?
Alvin: So, among your skills, you also have scientist now?
Merlin: No, actually I didn't, but if I couldn't heal that old wolf, he would have made fun of me a lot, and I couldn't stand that. *grins*
V&L: Merlin!! *laughs*
And finally, we reached them, opened the window, and called out.
Violet: Hello, ward!
Veronica: Haha, please tell me you found that damn medicine.
Magnus: I think my brain is hurting from dehydration.
Alpha: Merlin, Aiden's condition is very bad, please give me good news.
Merlin: Calm down, yes, we managed to produce the antidote.
Violet: I mean, partially.
Aiden: What do you mean partially? *coughs* We've been struggling here for weeks for you to find the treatment, and this is all you can say? Just a theory?
Violet: Look at you, you hybrid mess. We've been working on this antidote without sleep for weeks, and we found the closest thing to saving you, and instead of thanking us, you're whining?
Luna: Enough, we need to get them into surgery as soon as possible. Just look at their condition; they have no choice.
Alvin: Trust him, he really worked hard for you.
Merlin: Yes, I was able to produce an antidote, but I need to remove the infected skin before using it, otherwise, it will just slow down the progress.
Veronica: But in this case, no, how will you manage to do that before it reaches Aiden's lungs? Parts of his arms and waist are already infected.
Violet: That's the great part, Veronica. You don't need the skin pieces we took; thanks to the antidote, you will be able to regenerate quickly.
Aiden: Take me first; I don't think I can hold on much longer. *coughs blood and faints*
Violet: Damn it! Hurry!
We rushed inside, wrapped him in sheets, quickly lifted him onto a stretcher, and brought him toward the operating room.
Merlin had become so advanced in this matter that he had even created a power field that provided the necessary space with just a snap of his fingers. Whatever we needed at that moment, we could obtain it along with the required materials; this was the nature of healing magic. We quickly took Aiden into surgery and connected him to an IV. Merlin immediately placed an oxygen mask on him and connected him to a device to monitor his vital signs. I was astonished by how quickly he could move and how he seemed to know where everything was and how to use it; I just stood there staring at him as if he had prepared for this beforehand.
Violet: How are you able to do all of this?
Merlin: I don’t know, it’s like my brain has pre-stored information. When I see this place, my muscular system guides me as if it knows what I need to do.
Violet: This is a new topic. Ah! Hurry up, blood!
Merlin: You’re right, you’re right. Hand me the scalpel; we need to cut through this tissue.
Violet: *hands it over* Here you go. Hey, wait, are you sure—
Merlin had already started cutting.
Merlin: Violet, please talk less and help me. It’s really hard to do this alone; please.
Violet: Okay, okay, just throw everything here.
After a long surgery, we finally administered the antidote to him, connected him to an IV, and laid him down, waiting for him to wake up. I was taking care of him meticulously, visiting him every hour so that Veronica wouldn’t worry. Just as I was wiping his head with a wet towel,
Aiden: Hey, that was really cold.
Violet: Aiden!!! *hugs him*
Aiden: Okay, I know I’m too handsome and you can’t handle it, but if Veronica saw us, she would definitely switch her shampoo with a hair loss treatment.
Violet: Ahahha, I’m really glad you’re here. I was so scared; I need to go and share the good news. We need to heal the others too.
Aiden: *holds her arm* Well, I mean, thank you for everything. Honestly, you were my only hope when I came here. You were the only person I believed in, even though you’re not really a person, but you understood me. *coughs*
Violet: Don’t strain yourself; I understand perfectly. I promise we’ll have an ice cream party when you get better.
Aiden: I’m glad to hear that. Go and save the day.
I immediately left the room and bumped into Merlin at the door. I turned to him, excitedly hugged him, and ran to tell the others the good news. After that, we took everyone into surgery one by one and waited for them to wake up.
