Not the next day, but the day after, Peter Parker wakes up. He sits up in his bed, exposing his messy hair, and sees that he's still wearing his Spider-Man suit. Peter sighs, but the thought enters his mind that he beat Kearney the other night. Peter smiles at his victory. He gets out of bed, sore as ever. Peter slips on casual clothes over his Spider-Man suit. Peter puts the gloves and mask in his back pocket.
Peter walks out of his room and enters the hallway. Peter walks down the hallway and climbs down the stairs. Peter walks from the living room into the kitchen where he sees Aunt May sitting at a dining table.
"There you are, finally awake," Aunt May states.
"What are you talking about?" Peter asks as he looks at a clock on the microwave. The time says 8:10 AM, which Peter doesn't consider to be that late to wake up. May chuckles.
"You didn't wake up at all yesterday," Aunt May answers.
"Wait, actually? Why didn't you wake me?" Peter asks, he suddenly becomes nervous, thinking that Spider-Man disappeared for a full day. He calms himself when he realizes that Spider-Man would've vanished anyway since he's spending the next couple of days with Aunt May, as he promised.
"I did, but you just wouldn't wake up, so I let you have your rest," Aunt May responds.
"Well, that was nice of you," Peter states as he grabs a container of orange juice from the fridge and pours himself a cup of it.
"Oh, hey," Aunt May starts, Peter puts the orange juice back and begins to drink the orange juice in his cup, "MJ and Harry sent you voicemails, apparently they want to meet up," Peter's nervousness spikes back up, he almost spits his orange juice out. Peter swallows.
"Oh man, I was supposed to check on them yesterday," Peter states, "I'll be back soon, I promise," Peter walks toward the front door.
"Don't you want breakfast first?" Aunt May asks.
"I'll pick some up on the way," Peter says as he opens the door, "I love you!" Peter closes the door. Peter walks around May's house toward the backyard.
Later, Peter is in a subway car that is heading toward Manhattan. Peter sits in a chair next to a mother with two kids. The kids make a ruckus in the subway car. The subway car slowly comes to a complete stop at a subway station. Peter eagerly stands up and walks out of the train.
Peter walks out of the subway and onto the busy New York City sidewalks. Peter could just swing to Oscorp, but he feels too sore to do so. So, Peter walks through New York City, enjoying the little things about it such as small businesses and the joyful conversations that others are having. A woman wearing a green jacket and a purple skirt is carrying books by hugging them. She walks by Peter, and suddenly Peter's spider-sense starts going off. However, the woman trips over herself. The woman catches herself, though she drops one book. Peter catches the book from midair.
The woman is shocked to see Peter's reflexes. Peter hands the book back to the woman. The woman grabs the book from Peter.
"Those are some good reflexes," The woman comments.
"Thanks, I juggle a lot," Peter responds, covering up for his spider-sense. Peter looks at the book that the woman dropped for a moment. "That's an ESU textbook, are you going to college there?" Peter asks.
"Yeah, I made good use of some scholarships," The woman answers, "are you going to ESU?"
"I would be, but I dropped out after my second year. I got too caught up in other stuff, but I'm a lot more refocused now," Peter states.
"Oh, what was your major? The woman asks.
"Physics, what about you?" Peter responds.
"Biochemistry," The woman answers.
"Oh cool," Peter states.
"Alright, I gotta go," the woman finishes, "nice to meet you..." The woman stops as she doesn't know what Peter's name is.
"It's Peter," Peter tells the woman.
"Well, nice to meet you, Peter," The woman starts to walk away but pauses and turns around for a moment, "My name's Gwen, by the way," Gwen states.
"That's a nice name," Peter responds, "alright, well, stay in school," Peter jokes.
"I plan on it," Gwen and Peter go their separate ways, walking away from each other.
Later, Peter arrives at Oscorp Tower, Peter walks up the stairs that lead to the main entrance. Peter opens one of the entrance doors and walks into the lobby. Peter sees that construction on the balcony is complete. Peter walks toward the main stairwell. Peter enters the stairwell and arrives at the bomb-shelter-turned-lab. Peter walks down the stairs into the shelter. Peter sees Harry and MJ chatting with guards in the corners. Harry sees Peter enter the shelter.
"Peter?" Harry greets, sounding shocked, "What are you doing here?"
"Did you guys not hear the news?" Peter asks, "That guy that was going to kill you got caught, so you should be free to go,"
"Yeah, we heard," MJ answers.
"Yep," Harry continues from MJ's statement, "but my dad wanted to have me escorted to the penthouse just to be safe. 'Cause, you know, my dad's just amazing," Harry says sarcastically. "For whatever reason, MJ was going to stay here until you came to check on us,"
"Hey, it was more complicated than that," MJ gently slaps Harry's shoulder. MJ walks toward Peter, "I guess that means I can go, though," MJ states.
"Yeah, I guess so," Peter responds, he turns his attention toward Harry. "I'll see you later, man,"
"Alright, I'll see you later," Harry finishes. Peter and MJ walk out of the shelter. They both begin to walk out of Oscorp.
"So, how are you doing?" MJ asks.
"Well, the cities calm and I'm sensationally sore," Peter answers, "so, yeah, just dandy,"
"I guess that's fair," MJ states. The two walk out of Oscorp and down the stairs. "So, what happens now?" She asks.
"Well, Kearney's going to prison, then there's someone we gotta interrogate, and we'll go from there," Peter responds.
"Well, good luck with that," MJ wishes.
Later, at the police station, Simon is taken into an interrogation room. Simon sits in a metal chair, handcuffed to a metal table. Captain Stacy enters the interrogation room, with a folder in his hand. Lieutenant Yuri Wantabe and others survey the interrogation room from the one-way mirror. Captain Stacy stands in the room and opens the folder.
"Simon Hart," Captain Stacy starts, "no criminal record, huh? A worker at Oscorp Industries. How did someone like you end up in a situation like this?"
"I want my lawyer," Simon demands.
"Why would you need a lawyer if you're not guilty of anything?" Stacy asks.
"I'm not doing this until I get my lawyer," Simon puts his foot down.
"Fine," Stacy gives in, the captain walks toward Simon's handcuffs and unlocks them, "Go make your phone call,"
Later, a man in a black three-piece suit, with a red tie, walks up to the NYPD. He has a black fedora and sunglasses on, as well. He enters the NYPD building and approaches the receptionist.
"Hello, I'm James Douglass," James introduces, "I'm here to see my client, Simon Hart,"
"Okay, right this way," The receptionist stands up and walks away from the desk. The receptionist walks toward a stairwell and James follows. They walk up one level and get off the stairs. The receptionist leads James to the interrogation rooms. The receptionist notices that James is still wearing their sunglasses, "Do you want to take your sunglasses off?"
"No, they're transition lenses, they'll adjust soon enough," James declines.
"Oh, my apologies," They arrive at the second interrogation room. The receptionist opens the door. Captain Stacy sits in the chair opposite Simon's, who is handcuffed to the table again. "There is a James Douglass here to see Simon Hart,"
"Okay, thank you," Stacy replies, James enters the room and the receptionist closes the door behind James.
"Can my client and I have time to discuss this?" James asks.
"Of course, be my guest," Captain Stacy gets up and walks toward the door. James turns toward the one-way mirror.
"May we also do it privately!?" James yells at the mirror, knowing that people are behind it. James walks toward Simon and sits down in the chair that Stacy was sitting in. Stacy opens the door, leaves the room, and closes the door behind him. James waits for enough time for the people behind the mirror to walk away. "Okay here's the deal," James starts, in a whisper.
"What deal, James?" Simon asks.
"No, I am not your lawyer," James reveals.
"Oh?" Simon sounds confused, but he thinks for a second. Suddenly, Simon realizes that James is actually The Master Planner in the flesh. "Oh, it's you,"
"Now, listen," The Master Planner starts, in a much more serious and sinister voice, "here is what you're going to do. Tell them everything that you know about Kearney from your time with him, at least you'll be serving a shorter sentence. However, if you mention anything, and I mean even a hint, about his or your affiliation with me, then that's when the bad things happen. You got it?" He demands.
"Definitely," Simon stutters, "I won't let you down,"
"Good, now, let's get this over with," The Master Planner finishes.
After the interrogation, Captain Stacy and Yuri, who is holding a folder, stand on the roof of the police station. They see Spider-Man swing toward them. Spider-Man lands on the roof.
"Where were you yesterday?" Stacy asks, in a light-hearted voice.
"Asleep, apparently," Spider-Man answers.
"I've been there," Stacy states. Spider-Man turns toward Yuri.
"Are you alright, Yuri?" Spider-Man asks.
"I'm fine, and don't worry about me," Yuri responds, "we're good by the way, it was very stressful for me, I've never lost an officer like that before, I didn't mean to snap at you,"
"It's okay, Yuri," Spider-Man assures.
"Anyways, we just interrogated an associate of Kearney's named Simon Hart, have you heard of him?" Stacy starts. Spider-Man thinks about whether he's met Simon or not.
"No, my mind's blanking," Spider-Man states.
"Alright, well we tried to get answers out of him, and he gave us a lot of information about Kearney's actions and what he did," Stacy says, in a surprised voice that Simon told them all of that.
"Okay, so we're locking Kearney up for good, easy peasy, right?" Spider-Man asks impatiently.
"Yes, but there's something else that you need to see," Yuri answers, walking toward Spider-Man with the folder in her hands. The lieutenant hands Spider-Man the folder. The hero grabs the folder from Yuri. He looks into the folder and sees a file about Sam Crawford. Spider-Man skims through the file. He notices that Sam is listed as deceased.
"I don't get it," Spider-Man states, continuing to look at the file, "if this guy is dead, then what does it matter?"
"Sam is one of the only known associates of Kearney that aren't incarcerated after you stopped Kearney for the first time, a while back," Stacy responds, "and, the thing is, he supposedly was dead when we found the first warehouse that Kearney was hiding out at after we received a message about the warehouse from Sam himself,"
"But that doesn't make sense, I saw someone named Sam two weeks ago," Spider-Man ponders, his voice littered with confusion.
"I thought the same thing, because, I'm pretty sure I saw two days ago," Stacy reveals, "he was with Simon but he was able to get away before I could deal with the situation,"
"So, now we're on a wild goose chase looking for this Sam guy, right?" Spider-Man puts two and two together.
"Pretty much, yeah," Yuri states.
"Alright, that sounds easy enough," Spider-Man sounds sarcastic, "Okay, is that all? I've got somewhere I need to be,"
"Yes, that's all, we'll see you later," Stacy answers. Spider-Man nods, turns around, and leaps off of the police station rooftop. The hero begins to swing toward the R.A.F.T.
A little bit later, Spider-Man approaches the R.A.F.T. He lands in front of the prison and walks toward the entrance of it. The guards are hesitant to let Spider-Man in the R.A.F.T. One of the guards walks up to Spider-Man.
"Do you have business here?" The guard asks.
"I'm just here to see Kearney Jones, I think there's information I need to get out of him," Spider-Man answers, not at all intimidated by the guards.
"Fine, but be careful with the other inmates, I have a feeling that they don't like you much in here," the guard warns, allowing Spider-Man to pass. Spider-Man walks into the R.A.F.T. Spider-Man walks through the dirty prison, and the guard follows behind him. Spider-Man and the guard arrive at a room with a bunch of picnic tables for visiting purposes.
Spider-Man takes a seat, he sees other visitors give him the stinkeye. The hero simply ignores them. A couple of guards come out of a room with prisoners. Spider-Man recognizes a lot of them. He sees The Vulture, Electro, Rhino, and Kearney, all in prison outfits. Spider-Man and Kearney's spider-sense beacon activates again as Kearney and Spider-Man see each other. Kearney sits down across from Spider-Man, and the beacon gets stronger, however, none of them show much pain.
"Hello, Spider-Man," Kearney greets, with his voice giving off the impression that it is taking everything he has not to attack Spider-Man.
"How's it going, Kearney?" Spider-Man responds, sounding as annoying as ever.
"What do you want?" Kearney asks, getting straight to the point.
"All I want is for you to tell me all about your buddy, Sam," Spider-Man answers.
"Oh yeah, and why should I do that? He should be long gone by now," Kearney retaliates.
"Because Simon's in jail, because of Sam, and you and I both know that he's involved with Project S-6. I also know that you're as shocked as I am that your BFF has apparently come back as a ghost," Spider-Man states, sounding a bit more serious than usual.
"What are you talking about?" Kearney sounds like he's in on a joke, "They aren't the same person, hell, I don't even think the one you're looking for is even a person,"
"Then why would my spider-sense recognize them as the same person?" Spider-Man asks, "I saw him the night Vulture attacked before he was found dead, and he has to be the same person because they both work for you,"
"Who said they work for me?" Kearney says with confusion, "Look, not like I would even help you anyway, but there's no information I can give you about Sam's location. But, thank you for throwing my friend's death in my face,"
"I figured as much," Spider-Man stands up, completely ignoring Kearney's side comment, and begins to leave the room.
"Spider-Man," Kearney calls out, Spider-Man pauses and turns around at Kearney, "How does it feel to know that, no matter what, you can't walk away from this or New York will fall to ashes? Destiney can just be evil, sometimes, can't it?" Kearney pauses, and Spider-Man thinks about what Kearney is saying, "It's what makes us so similar," Spider-Man walks toward Kearney, "we've both been damned by destiny," Spider-Man puts his hands on the table.
"We are nothing alike," Spider-Man retaliates, "I've realized that I'm here by my own choice, not destiny. However, you just can't see your own mistakes and continue to blame things that are larger than you. You didn't have to get revenge on me, you just felt so angry and felt you needed to do something about it," Spider-Man takes his hands off of the table and begins to walk away from Kearney again, "We are in control of ourselves, Kearney," Spider-Man leaves the room.
That night, Peter, MJ, and Harry leave an Italian restaurant. Peter and MJ are laughing.
"I mean, how does a cone end up on the ceiling at a place like Oscorp?" Peter asks Harry.
"I don't know, with all of our security I'm sure he would've gotten caught," Harry chuckles.
"Anyways, back on topic, how did you get out of the penthouse without a bodyguard?" Peter asks, in a more serious voice.
"Oh, I convinced my dad that I was safe and there wasn't anything at the penthouse so he let me off of the leach," Harry answers.
"Well, we're glad you're here," MJ assures.
"Thanks, MJ," Harry says. Three cop cars go speeding by Peter, MJ, and Harry with their sirens on. Peter's spider-sense goes off as they drive by. Peter waits for the police cars to go down the street and then he turns his attention back to Harry and MJ.
"Alright, I think I'm gonna call it a night. It's been a busy week," Peter states, he starts to walk away, still looking at Harry and MJ.
"Bye!" MJ waves goodbye.
"Alright, see you later, man," Harry says goodbye.
"I'll see you guys later," Peter turns around and walks away from Harry and MJ, who walk in the opposite direction of Peter. Peter rounds a corner, out of Harry and MJ's sight. Peter finds an alleyway to enter. Peter enters an alleyway and makes sure he's out of everybody's sight. Peter changes into his red and blue Spider-Man suit. He puts the gloves and mask on.
Spider-Man runs up the wall and onto the roof of a building. Spider-Man looks into the distance and sees the police lights. Spider-Man runs to the edge of the rooftop and jumps off of the roof. Spider-Man freefalls and starts to swing. The hero swings after the police cars, ready, and choosing, to take anything that awaits him.
