Peter wakes up in his bed the next morning, he gets up and makes himself some toast before checking his phone to ensure nothing is going down. He gets a notification from his Daily Bugle app that reads Menace Takes Down Gang with the Police, Corrupt Law Enforcers? Peter scoffs as he reads it. But at the same, he gets another notification from a different news company that reads Breaking News: Recent Inmate Kearney Jones Escapes from R.A.F.T. Super Prison! Peter's eyes widen and he immediately gets his red and purple Spider-Man suit on and starts to swing through the early morning streets.
Spider-Man's speed is great as he approaches the R.A.F.T. and lands with a roll. He sees many police officers looking around the prison. The guard from last night is being questioned.
"I don't know how they did it, but the records showed that he was being transferred." Spider-Man overhears. He feels his phone vibrate and he checks it, it's Mary Jane texting him. You wanna hang out? The text reads, Spider-Man responds with Yeah, on my way. Spider-Man swings off.
Spider-Man arrives at the apartment complex where MJ lives. Spider-Man finds a place to change and walks up to MJ's apartment and knocks on the door. MJ opens it and invites Peter in.
"Hey, Pete." MJ greets as Peter and MJ walk down the entrance into the living room.
"Hey, MJ." Peter returns.
"I heard about that thing at the warehouse." MJ sits on the couch.
"Yeah, that was something. Kearney got out, too."
"Oh." MJ is shocked, "That's bad."
"You're telling me." Peter replies, "No one knows where he is, but I bet he's probably making a manhunt for me."
"Well, I'm confident that you'll take him out no problem."
"Thanks for the encouragement, but you haven't been on the receiving end of one of his attacks." Peter jokes.
"Yeah, I guess that's true." MJ replies, "What's your game plan?"
"I don't know, wait for him to strike first. Or maybe the police find something."
"Interesting." They both sit in silence for a while, MJ checks her phone, "Oh shoot. I gotta get to work, I'm sure you do too, I'll see you later."
Once Peter and MJ leave, Peter grabs his mask from his pocket and puts it back on. He takes off his casual clothes and starts another swing.
At Oscorp, Kearney, Simon, and Norman watch as a big 3D printer constructs a black vest with covered tubes running up the side of it.
"So, we just put some of the drug on the back and it should stabilize it?" Kearney asks, turning to Norman.
"Yes, that is how it should work," Norman responds. Later, Kearney tries on the vest. It goes down to his waist for extra protection and is made of carbon fiber for flexibility. The vest is oversized on Kearney at the moment, Simon walks up to his back with a vial of the drug in his hand. He looks at the back of the vest, trying to find a spot to put the vial. Simon sees a part of the vest that opens up for the vial, Simon places the vial in it and closes the part. The tubes of the vest have an LED pattern that starts to light up blue.
Kearney bends over in pain as he starts to grow, and eventually becomes the hulking brute again. The vest now fits perfectly and Kearney smiles with sinister intent.
Later, Peter is in Jameson's office, once more. He talks to Jameson about the event that happened last night. Jameson seems annoyed by Peter.
"I didn't catch the fight at the warehouse but I caught a couple of the aftermath," Peter says before handing Jameson a few pictures. Jameson looks through them, he sees a picture with some of the gang members getting in a police van, another one has Spider-Man talking to Captain Stacy and Lieutenant Watanabe, the last one is a picture of all the destroyed vials of the drug.
"These are usable." Jameson mutters to himself, "I'll pay you the standard for these." Jameson tells Peter in a normal voice. Jameson writes Peter a check and hands it to him. Peter walks out of the Daily Bugle and finds his usual changing spot in which he puts his Spider-Man suit on and starts swinging through the city once more.
That night, Peter lies in bed, trying to get some sleep. But his phone starts ringing. Peter, half asleep, picks up his phone and sees that it's his police scanner app. Pheonix Cartel spotted on a rooftop on W 86th St the app reads, Peter gets out of bed.
"Let's make this quick," Peter tells himself as he gets out of bed and into the red and purple suit. Spider-Man swiftly swings through the bright nighttime lights for the city. Spider-Man arrives at 86th Street but doesn't see any gang members or anything. He lands on a rooftop and looks around to see if anything happened. Spider-Man hears what sounds like a helicopter approaching him, he turns around and his suspicions are proven to be correct as a helicopter is lowering its altitude toward the hero. Spider-Man steps back slightly.
The helicopter is a higher class one with room in the back. Once the helicopter reaches a place where he can see who is in the back, he can't make them out. He sees three average-sized figures and one that is bigger than the others.
"Is that you, Kearney?" Spider-Man asks before two of the average-sized figures start to fire their weapons at him. Spider-Man dodges them with ease but the third figure throws a flash grenade that Spider-Man doesn't notice. It goes off and Spider-Man starts only seeing blurs and hearing a high-pitched ringing. Kearney gets off the helicopter runs over to Spider-Man and punches him in the torso just as he regains his balance. Spider-Man goes flying into an air conditioning unit. Kearney runs over to Spider-Man before he can get up. Kearney grabs Spider-Man by the leg and throws him off the roof. Spider-Man freefalls through the air and right into the side of a car, denting it heavily and sending its alarm off.
"Happy to see you, too." Spider-Man jokes in a strained voice as he starts to get off of the car. The other figures get off the helicopter and, with Kearney, look down at Spider-Man. One of the figures jumps off of the building and lands perfectly. The figure steps out of the shadows, revealing black clothes and mask. Spider-Man gets into a fighting position but lowers his fists for a second as if he recognizes the figure. "You're that guy with the folder," Spider-Man says.
"Spider-Man, this is Sam. Sam, Spider-Man." Kearney introduces each other but means it in a bantering way, "Though I think you know each other already." Kearney jumps off of the building, as well. Sam throws a combat knife at Spider-Man. Spider-Man dodges it easily, Sam tries to punch Spider-Man but the hero grabs Sam's wrist and pulls it to the ground. Spider-Man uses his other arm to punch Sam in the face. Sam kicks Spider-Man in the back. Sam backhands Spider-Man and tries to punch Spider-Man with his other hand. Spider-Man blocks the punch and throws Sam behind.
The other two figures in the room shoot at Spider-Man. Spider-Man starts to swing around the street to avoid the gunfire. Spider-Man gets back on the roof and webs the guns to pull them out of the figure's hands. Spider-Man takes out the figures with ease before turning his attention back to Kearney. Spider-Man jumps off of the building. Kearney grabs Spider-Man midair and throws him back on the street. Spider-Man lands perfectly. Kearney picks up a car and hurls it at Spider-Man. The red and purple hero grabs the car and sets it on the ground. Spider-Man gets on the roof of the car and jumps off, punching Kearney in the face and landing behind the brute. Spider-Man shoots a web at the back of Kearney's head and starts to pull Kearney over.
Kearney turns around, grabs the web, and throws Spider-Man over his shoulder. Sam jumps in the air and punches Spider-Man back down to the ground. Sam lands on his feet next to Kearney. Spider-Man stands up on the rough and rugged road and puts his fists up. Kearney charges at the hero, and Spider-Man dodges out of the way. Kearney slows down on the other side of the street, he throws a mailbox at Spider-Man. Spider-Man catches the mailbox and sets it down. However, Kearney uses this distraction to his advantage to get up close to Spider-Man. Spider-Man attempts to kick the brute, but Kearney blocks it and throws Spider-Man to the other side of him. Spider-Man lands on his feet.
"Is that the best you can do?" Spider-Man asks as a joke, however, his spider-sense starts to go off hard. He prepares for Kearney to attack, but out of nowhere, Sam jumps onto Spider-Man's back. Sam injects a syringe into the hero's neck and pulls out some of Spider-Man's blood. Sam jumps off of Spider-Man's back, the hero turns around but realizes that Sam threw another flash grenade at Spider-Man's feet. The grenade goes off, sending Spider-Man into another daze. The hero's spider-sense starts going crazy with sensory overflow. Kearney punches Spider-Man's back, sending the hero falling to the floor. Spider-Man turns around to lay on his back and shoots a bunch of webs with rapid fire. Spider-Man stands back up at a fast pace. The hero's spider-sense starts to calm down.
"You're not ready for what is about to happen." Kearney comments.
"You're not gonna monologue, are you?" Spider-Man quips in a groan, keeping his spirits high.
"No, I want you to see for yourself. But first," Kearney rushes toward Spider-Man and punches him in the face. Spider-Man tries to punch Kearney back but it's blocked by Sam who approaches from behind the hero. Kearney and Sam start to attack Spider-Man with fierce strikes, Spider-Man tries his best to block the two as they throw their punches. Kearney kicks Spider-Man to the ground. Kearney and Sam stand over Spider-Man before turning around and walking away. In a tattered red and purple suit, Spider-Man tries to stand up, his breath sharp. "You still think you can beat me?" Kearney asks in a smug, confident voice.
"You're finally picking it up." Spider-Man answers, putting his fists up. Kearney turns to Sam.
"Get the sample back to Oscorp and give it to Simon," Kearney instructs. Sam nods and starts to climb back up the bricks of a building to get back to the helicopter. Kearney turns back to Spider-Man.
"You wanna strike first, or should I?" Spider-Man jokingly asks.
"You know," Kearney starts while also starting to circle Spider-Man, "I used to hate you." Spider-Man keeps his eyes on Kearney as the villain circles him. "You took my one way out of the criminal world."
"Yes, but you don't have to do this. There's another way out." Spider-Man retaliates.
"There's your flaw, you have the naivete of a child. You really think the police are just going to let me go? The second I give up I'm going right back to the R.A.F.T." Kearney continues, Spider-Man looks to the side in thought. "But, aside from that, after these few weeks I've seen that you are respectable. You've just been putting your efforts in the wrong place. If you were to join me,"
"Blah blah blah, I've heard the speech a million times," Spider-Man interrupts, putting his eyes back on Kearney, "what do you want with my blood, anyway?" Kearney chuckles,
"You'll see, Spider-Man, you'll see," Kearney responds ominously before he throws a punch at Spider-Man, who dodges it, but Kearney grabs the hero and throws him with full force at a car, denting it fiercely. "You're determined, Spider-Man," Kearney continues, "I'm afraid to say that will be your downfall." Kearney walks down the dimly lit, barren street, eventually disappearing from Spider-Man's sight.
Meanwhile, the helicopter swiftly approaches Oscrop Industries, its blades making a loud swooshing noise. The helicopter approaches the building's helipad. The aircraft slows down and lands on the helipad. Before the pilot turns off the helicopter, Sam slides open the door with force and hops out of the aircraft. Sam has a tight grip on the vial filled with Spider-Man's blood. Sam walks up to a pair of smooth, handleless doors that slide open as he approaches. Sam walks into the industrialized building and down the hall toward Norman Osborn's office. Sam approaches the smooth, glossy pair of wooden doors with golden tube handles. Sam opens one of the doors and enters the office. He sees Norman sitting in his chair by his desk while Simon leans on the desk.
"Do you have it?" Simon stands up, walking toward Sam. Sam hands Simon the vial of blood. "Thanks," Simon responds, "you should start talking, y'know." Simon walks back to the desk and puts the vial on it. "There, you go. Anything else?" Simon turns his attention toward Norman.
"Once Kearney gets here, I'll have what I need," Norman replies, with dread in his voice, his head hanging. Meanwhile, Kearney enters an alleyway. The brute reaches behind his back and pulls out the vial of the super soldier drug. Kearney closes his eyes tensely as he starts to shrink back to regular size, Kearney starts to fall over as his legs begin to give due to the weak feeling. Kearney takes off the vest that has now become too big for him, he throws it in the nearby dumpster. Kearney walks out of the alleyway, he looks around and only sees a few shady figures walking down the sidewalk. Kearney joins them and heads toward the towering Oscorp Industries building.
Once Kearney is in front of the building, he starts to make his way around the building to the back of it.
"There has to be a door back here, right?" Kearney mumbles to himself. Kearney stumbles through the bushes that lie around the Oscorp Building. He makes it around and sees Simon standing at a non-fancy door he holds open.
"Too good for the front door?" Simon banters, a smirk on his face.
"Did Sam bring the package?" Kearney responds, ignoring what Simon said.
"Yeah, we got it," Simon answers, walking into the building with Kearney following. The two make their way toward an elevator, get in, and start to head up. "Remember not long ago when we were in this very elevator? Think about how far we're going now."
"Simon, that was yesterday, we don't even know each other." Kearney returns in a stern voice. Simon goes silent out of embarrassment. Once the elevator eventually reaches its destination, the two get out of the elevator and walk into Norman Osborn's office. Once they walk into the office, they see Norman sitting in his office chair by his desk.
"Good timing," Norman starts, "now we can get started." He gets out of his chair.
"So, what now?" Simon asks, with confusion in his voice.
"Now, I need Kearney's blood to know your blood type compared to Spider-Man's, so that I can convert Spider-Man's blood to match your own," Norman explains, walking toward the two of them. "Let's head to the lab." Norman, Simon, Kearney, and Sam walk out of the office and head down the empty, dark hallways. Norman takes out a keycard as he walks toward a futuristic, sliding door with Laboratory written on it. Norman slides the keycard through a scanner. They hear a beep from the scanner and a clicking sound from the door, Norman continues walking toward the door and the door slides open, revealing a white lab with standard lab equipment littered throughout. Norman, Kearney, Simon, and Sam walk into the lab, Sam walks over and stands in a corner. Norman walks over to a counter and picks up a syringe. He walks over to Kearney.
"I'm going to need to take your blood now, Kearney," Norman instructs, Kearney rolls up the sleeve of the suit as best as he can. Norman injects the syringe and pulls up on the end, pulling out blood. Norman pulls out the syringe. He walks over to a computer with the monitor on the wall and the keyboard on the counter. Beside the keyboard is a slot for a vial. Norman hits a button that turns on the computer. Eventually, the computer displays a log-in screen, and Norman logs into the Oscorp account. Norman inserts the vial with Kearney's blood into one of the slots. A window on the screen pops up, it's an ID of Kearney. Norman looks at Kearney's blood type, it's listed as AB. Norman takes the vial of Kearney's blood out of the slot and gently places it to the side, then he grabs the other vial with Spider-Man's blood and places it in the slot. The second the ID pops up, Norman's eyes open wider than ever before. "No." He mumbles to himself in a whisper, putting his hands over his mouth. The ID that had appeared, was one belonging to Peter Parker.
"So, that's who he is." Kearney comments, walking over to the computer, "And look, that's one of the guys in your pictures." Kearney pauses for a moment, expecting Norman to synthesize the drug. "Well, what are you waiting for?" Kearney asks in a demanding tone. Norman assertively gets out of his chair and balls his fists up.
"I'm done helping you," Norman retaliates, "you want to slap me around and threaten the people I care about? No, not me, I am one of the richest people in the world and you don't get to screw with me." Kearney looks to his feet and puts his hand on Norman's shoulder.
"You really think you can just tell us to go away when we have unfinished business?" Kearney asks in a sinister voice.
"I can and I am," Norman responds, backing away from Kearney. Norman hears the sound of 2 guns cocking around him. Both Kearney and Simon are holding Norman at gunpoint. "You think you can threaten me with death? Because, no, it won't work, you need me."
"Yes, I guess you're right," Kearney responds, with a smile on his face, "but, may I remind you that your son can die at any time I want? All it takes is one tiny phone call." Simon pulls a burner phone out of his pocket.
"Fine, but you leave forever after I give you this drug." Norman gives in, and Kearney smiles.
"Deal." Kearney finishes before Norman walks over to another device, it connects to the ceiling in the shape of a pillar. It has slots to insert two vials of a substance. Norman turns on the device and inserts Peter's blood into one of the slots, he turns around and points to Simon.
"Hey, you, can you go get one of the vials of the drug from the RND Department? Take my badge." Norman tosses Simon his badge, Simon swiftly catches it, puts his gun away, and heads out of the room. Kearney walks over to Sam in the corner.
"Peter Parker is a photographer for the Daily Bugle," Kearney whispers, "wait in a building around the bugle and wait for him to show himself, then follow home and get back to me about where he lives." Sam understands Kearney's instructions and heads out of the room as well. Kearney turns to Norman, "Thank you for your cooperation, doctor."
