I got up and took a shower before getting dressed and heading down for breakfast. After taking a shower I towel dry my hair grab one of his shirts to wear for now. I didn’t think this through. I have no clothes here to change into to go home.
I head downstairs and he breakfast all set on the dinning room table. “Mmm sexy. I love seeing you in my shirts.”
“I have nothing else to wear. I wasn’t given the chance to bring a change of clothes with me.”
“I had my housekeeper wash your clothes from yesterday. They’ll be ready for you after breakfast.”
“Thank you. I appreciate it.”
“You’re quite welcome. Though if you stay here you won’t need any clothes.”
“Mmhm tempting. But I’m sure you have to get to work. After all you have a whole empire to run and I need to get back to my work.”
“Fair enough. You’re right but I have to say I don’t like it when you’re right.”
“I don’t think I like it right now either.”
We sit down and enjoy a nice breakfast together and what a spread it is. There’s pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Topped off with coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice.
I don’t remember eating so much for breakfast. But it was delicious.
After we finished eating I changed and Nathan took me home. I barely get in the door when my phone goes off with a text.
Nick: Do I even need to ask where you were all night?
Kris: What do you mean?
Nick: Don’t play coy with me missy. I know you weren’t home last night.
Kris: How would you know that?
Nick: I may have stopped by with tacos but after sitting around for about an hour I gave up and went home.
Kris: Dammit. I missed tacos?
Nick: Yep, your loss my gain.
Kris: Asshole.
Nick: You home now?
Kris: Yep
Nick: Staying in the rest of the night?
Kris: That’s the plan.
Nick: Lover boy on his own tonight?”
Kris: Ha ha it was one night. Stop making a big deal out of it.
Nick: Fine we’ll talk about it tonight when I come over with some tacos for you.”
Kris: Tacos again for you?
Nick: How else will I get the scoop from you?
Kris: Yeah, you’re probably right.
Nick: See ya later.
Kris: Later.
I finally sit down to check my emails and get some work done. I’m relieved to find that I don’t have any urgent emails with any new business to attend to. I get to work on some of the other sites for Black Incorporated. I manage to get the site for Temptation, Nathan’s newest club.
I didn’t realize how engrossed I was in this project until I heard Nick enter my apartment.
“Hi honey I’m home.” He announces. “And I have tacos. Come get ‘em while they’re hot.”
“Smells delicious.”
“Okay spill.”
“Seriously? You don’t waste any time, do you?”
“Hey, I ply you with your favorite food and you supply the entertainment.”
“Let me guess if I don’t then I’m on my own for tacos from now on?”
“Damn straight.”
“Fine. So yesterday was lunch with dad and Mike but before we even had a chance to order we have a surprise guest.”
“No way. He didn’t.”
“Oh, he did. Some how he knew where we going to have lunch and showed up. He then managed to get an invite to join us.”
“Hmm damn I like this guy even more now.”
“Yeah you would. Anyway…” I continued to tell him how he offered to take me home but brought me to his place instead. I gave him all the details. Well mostly all of them.
“You’re falling. I can see it.”
“I can as well. The only problem is I’m afraid of falling too hard and too fast.”
“Don’t be. Just enjoy the ride. You’d be surprised at just how much you enjoy it and are actually ready for it.”
“You think?”
“Oh yeah. It’s time. You’re ready for this. I think he’s going to be good for you.”
“What about you?”
“What about me?”
“Oh come on, you haven’t met that one person you more want to spend more than one night with?”
“Nah, I’m having fun living the single life.”
“That isn’t fair.”
“What?”
“I’m suppose to give Nathan a chance and give being in a relationship a shot but you get to continue living the single life. Why can’t I? Why is it so important for me and not you?”
“Really? Come on, were you even really living? I am. I go out I have fun and enjoy life. You spend your life in seclusion with the minimal amount of people interaction.”
“But I was perfectly happy.”
“Were you really?”
“Yeah at least I think so.”
“I don’t think so, but you seem happy.”
“Okay I will admit it does feel different.”
It’s good to finally see you look sincerely happy for once. I’ll be honest with you. For the past few years it was almost like you were just surviving. Like you were just going through the motions of life.”
“I think you’re probably right. I just haven’t realized till now.”
“Of course. That does make sense.”
“It does?”
“Absolutely, think about it. The first few years of your life sucked. Sure you had John and Mike for most of it by now but you never let yourself fully live. It’s like you were afraid to for some reason.”
“I guess you’re right.”
“What can I say, therapy helped me so much.”
“I can see that.”
“It can do the same for you if you would let it.”
I roll my eyes and let out a sigh. “Let’s not go back down that road. It is closed. Dead end.”
“You’re so fucking stubborn.”
“How long did I try Nick? How many shrinks did I see? Let’s just face it. Therapy isn’t for everyone. And it doesn’t work for everybody.”
“Did you even give it a real chance? Or did you just go through the motions? Did you even talk to any of the doctors and really open up to them?”
“I’m done with this conversation.” I got up and walked away and started to clean up.
“Baby girl.” I ignored him. I was not discussing this again. “Kris.” He got more urgent. “Kristina, stop.”
“What?”
“Look, I’m sorry. I know this is a sensitive topic for you but I only bring it up because I care about you.”
I let out a sigh. “I know, I really do I’m just…I’m over talking about this with everyone. I don’t even see the need for it now.
“I know and I get it. I’m sorry. Forgive me?”
“You know I do.”
“So what do you want to do?”
“Well, I definitely want to stay in tonight. What about a movie marathon?”
“What did you have in mind?”
“Dark Knight series or Fast and the Furious.”
“We’re probably better off with the Dark Knight series as I don’t think we can make through all the Fast and Furious movies if we start now.”
“True, Dark Knight it is.”
“Alright, you go get the movie ready and I’ll make the popcorn.”
“You know I can make popcorn.”
“I don’t think so baby girl.”
“What’s wrong with my popcorn?”
“Besides the fact that you always burn it?”
“Oh, I do not.”
“Seriously? Do I need to go over your track record?”
I thought about it and thought back to whenever I was in charge of it and fuck it he’s right. “Whatever, I’ll get the movie ready.”
I can hear him laugh as he walks into the kitchen. He can be such an ass at times.
When he c are back out we settled on the couch and dove into our movie marathon. About a quarter of the way through Dark Knight Nick’s phone went off with a text. “That was Lennox. He and Quinn want to you if we want to go with them to the Limelight tomorrow night.”
“Sure, why not. It was fun last time.”
“I’ll let him know.” He sent off a quick text. “You know, I thought that I was going to have to convince you to go.”
“I think if this was a week ago or even a few days ago then yeah you might have had to. But I like Lennox and Quinn. Hell I even like Bill and but not Nadine, though Liz seems pretty cool.”
“Yeah, we all pretty much feel the same way for the most part. I will say this but don’t say anything to any of them. I don’t think Bill and Nadine will be together much longer.”
“Of course I won’t, but why do you think that?”
“I don’t know exactly. They just don’t seem like they are happy.”
“I got that impression as well.”
“Only time will tell though.”
“True.” We continued watching the movie and when it was over I put on Dark Knight Rises. Within the first twenty minutes my phone went off with a text. “We’re popular tonight huh?”
“Seems it.”
Nathan: I want to see you tomorrow night. What will it take?
Kristina: Sorry meeting friends for a night out.
Nick peeked over to look at my phone. “Dodging him already?”
“Nope, just going to give him a hard time. Don’t want to make it too easy.”
“Oh that’s so fucked up.”
Nathan: Cancel
Kristina: Can’t I literally just made these plans with them. I’d feel like a shitty friend if I just canceled like that.
Nathan: Well we don’t want that now, do we?
Kristina: Nope, not at all.
I can see Nick on his phone. I figured he was probably talking to either Lennox again or getting a hold of Bill so I went back to my conversation.
Nathan: So, how about this? You tell me where you are meeting your friends and I’ll join you.
Kristina: I don’t know.
Nathan: Why not?
Kristina: I don’t want to just invite someone without talking to them. This was all their plan anyway.
Nathan: We’re seeing each other so it would make sense to invite me. I’d like to meet your friends anyway.
I have to admit its been a blast messing with him. I would like him to join us and I know it wouldn’t be a problem I just can’t help myself.
Kristina: I’ll see what I can do.
There was radio silence for a bit. He normally. Doesn’t take this long to respond. Now I hope I didn’t go too far. Finally my phone goes off.
Nathan: I’ll see you tomorrow at seven. I’ll pick you and Nick up at your place and we’ll all head to the Limelight together.
Kristina: Wait? Huh? How’d you know?
Nathan: See you then. Be ready.
What the actual fuck? Then it registers, Nick. I look over at him and he has the audacity to look all innocent. Oh I don’t think so. I quickly swipe his phone and look at his messaging app. He wasn’t talking to Bill or Lennox. While I was talking to Nathan so was he. He gave up our plans and invited him.
“You ass.”
“What?”
“Really? You going to play that game?”
“All I did was what you should have done.”
“And what I was going to do.”
“The guy asked me if I had any plans for tomorrow night and I said yes. He asked what I was doing and I told him. He asked if those plans included you and of course I was honest.”
“You could have told me.”
“I felt for the guy. He honest to god thought you were blowing him off. He was afraid he did something wrong. I didn’t want you to lose him because you were having a little fun with him.”
“Damn, I guess maybe I went too far.”
“Not if you two were together longer and got to know each other better. I think he would have responded differently.”
“Yeah, you’re right. Then fine. Thank you for saving me from myself. But he does love to give orders.”
“Oh come on, admit it. You like it. You even think it’s hot.”
“Maybe a little. Though it can kind of be unnerving.”
“I get it. Just remember, it’s not the same. He’s not trying to control every aspect of your life. It’s in a more caring, I just want to take care of you kind of way.”
“I suppose you’re right. Let’s finish this movie then call it a night.”
“This early? For you?”
“Yeah, I was up early. He’s an early riser.” I groan. I hate mornings. “Since he had to work and I had to get home and get some work done. I couldn’t exactly sleep in. I had to leave when he was ready to take me home.”
“Oof I’m sure that sucked.”
“Yep, especially since I’m not use to it.”
“Yeah, well you can sleep in tomorrow though I don’t know if that will happen now.”
“It probably won’t. My whole sleep schedule is so messed up now.”
“Welcome to the mornings. Us normal people will help guid you through it.”
“Ha ha very funny. I like my nights. This waking up early in the morning is bullshit.”
“Come on, now you can be one of us. One of us.”
“Oh fuck that. Nathan and I are going to have a serious conversation about this.”
“Good luck with that one.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means I see him getting his way instead of you.”
“Gee thanks.”
“I don’t mean anything by it. It’s just that he has to be up every morning to run his empire as you call it. And if you’re going to be together it would only make sense to be on the same schedule.”
“Oh wonderful.”
With that we finished watching the movie and got ready for bed. Nick crashed in the spare room. Who knew what tomorrow would bring. Here’s to a new chapter in my life.
