They turned and walked away then. Elliott waited until he couldn’t see them anymore before heading back to where he left Kay.
When Elliott turned the corner, she got up and came over to him and he wrapped his arms around her. He led her back over to the bench and they sat there for a little bit as she calmed down. As they sat there Kay watched the stars and Elliott watched her from the corner of his eyes. They were content to just stay there for the night but after a little bit Elliott said, “We should probably head back before they think we ran away together.” Kay smiled and nodded knowing he was right so they got up but her legs had fallen asleep and she started to fall.
Elliott caught her and pulled her close as he asked, “Are you okay?” she nodded not trusting her voice but when she looked up, she saw how concerned he was for her so she said, “My legs just fell asleep.” He relaxed a little but didn’t let go of her right away and she didn’t pull away. Soon they heard voices and Elliott gave Kay her shoes before taking her hand and leading her down a set of stairs they both knew it would only start roomers if they were caught together. When they got to the bottom of the stairs, they hid along the wall that was below where they just were when they heard Lilly ask, “Where are they I’m getting worried about Kay.”
Then Lucas said, “I’m sure she’s fine.” Elliott started to step out and get them away when Kay stopped him and gave back his cloak. She knew if they saw him without it then they would assume she had it, he put it on quickly and then headed back up the stairs as Kay followed the path further down. She had just gotten out of range of the lantern when Lucas looked down for her. Elliott asked, “Have you guys seen Kay yet?”
They shook their heads and Lilly said, “We were kind of hoping you did.” Elliott said, “Sorry no luck.” While they talked Kay made her way to the next set of steps and walked up before putting her shoes back on and heading back in their direction. When she got to them, she smiled and asked, “What are you guys doing out here?”
