Kay didn’t ask questions as they went, she simply stayed quiet which only concerned Elliott and Lucas. They rode until night then made camp, they started a small fire before Kay said, “I’m going to get more firewood before it gets too dark.”
She left before either of them could object. When she left, she felt a little better she could feel both Lucas and Elliott watching her, she figured they were wondering when she would fall apart. She got pretty far away when she leaned against a tree and started to cry silently. She didn’t understand why she was feeling like her world was falling apart. she had never cared about the engagement before but now, she couldn’t stand the thought of being engaged.
Meanwhile, after Kay left, Lucas and Elliott stayed quiet for a moment then Elliott asked, “if you knew she was engaged why did you try to get me to…” Lucas cut him off and said, “she is engaged because she believes it’s the only way, she can protect the people she cares about. Her parents were the ones to set up the engagement she had no say in it. As for why I wanted you to tell her how you feel, well I figured if she felt the same maybe we could convince her to break the engagement. she knows we will help her with that and protect her people but she doesn’t want us interfering. The problem is we can see the engagement is not good for her, we’re pretty sure she knows but she would never admit it, and we believe she has just decided there isn’t a point to fight it. If she doesn’t ask for help soon though, we’re going to break the engagement without her permission and just deal with her anger. We would rather her be angry at us than for her to be stuck in a loveless marriage. We just want her to be happy.” Elliott was surprised when Lucas finished. He knew Lucas and his sisters cared about Kay but he didn’t know how much until today. Elliott then asked, “what if she doesn’t feel the same? Then it wouldn’t matter you still wouldn’t be able to convince her.” Lucas shrugged and said, “you’ll never know if she does or doesn’t until you tell her.”
Elliott shook his head and said, “even if I told her and she felt the same, we wouldn’t be able to do anything about it unless I give up being a Prince but unfortunately, I need to be a Prince in order to keep Xavier away from her and protect her.”
