Lucas smiled and said, “she doesn’t need anyone to protect her and I still think you should tell her she might agree to break the engagement then and maybe you could have your relationship in secret.” Elliott got up and said, “I doubt that would work. I’m going to look for firewood.” He walked away from the fire on the opposite side Kay went when he felt he was far enough away he headed in the direction Kay headed he wanted to check on her when he noticed she had been gone for a while. When he found her, she was leaning against a tree crying he came up and asked, “are you okay?”
Kay flinched a little when she heard Elliott, she hadn’t expected him to be there. Kay quickly straightened up and turned away a little not wanting him to see she was crying as she said, “yes, I’m okay.” She started to walk away when he caught her wrist, his grip was gentle and Kay stopped not wanting to pull away from him. Elliott walked closer to her before wiping a tear from her cheek he then said, “you don’t look like you’re okay.” She didn’t look at him as she said, “it’s nothing, it wouldn’t affect my job.”
He was worried about her as he said, “while I have no doubts about that, I was more concerned with how you are.” She was surprised by his response but still didn’t look at him. He still hadn’t released her wrist as he said, “if you’re upset you can talk about it, you can also cry if that’s what you need to do, but if you do need to talk you can talk to me if you want, I will listen same if you need to cry, but please don’t cry alone sometimes that can make it worse, and if you don’t trust me enough to cry around at least go to someone you can trust.” As he spoke Kay started to cry again, she wanted to tell him she did trust him and she wanted to tell him everything but she knew she couldn’t tell him everything, she couldn’t even get herself to tell him she trusted him. When he noticed, she had started to cry more, she moved her hands to cover her face just as he release her wrist, he then pulled her into a hug and just let her cry.
