When she was done, Lucas was going to walk her to her room but when they got to the stairs to come back down, she saw Elliott and the rest of the troop waiting for her. So, Lucas kissed her cheek and said, “Looks like you’re in good hands I’ll see you tomorrow.” Kay smiled at him and said, “Thank you, Lucas.”
Lucas smiled and walked away as Kay came down the stairs. Kyle smiled mischievously and said, “We stayed to walk you to the Barracks. Elliott figured with as lovely as you looked tonight you shouldn’t walk back alone.” She could tell he was trying to mess with her so she smiled and said, “Thank you for walking with me.” As they walked some of the guys in the troop were asking if they could get a demonstration at some point on how she took down the attacker at the ball. Kay was happy here with her new troop, but her engagement always seemed to be on her mind and the closer it got the more she thought about it.
She had been thinking about it when Elliott found her after she went out during the ball. Elliott then brought her out of her thoughts as she began to spiral again when he asked, “so who is Nicole? You weren’t concerned about seeing her at the ball in serpents sanctuary but yet you and Lucas greeted her as if she was a part of his family.” Kay smiled and said, “Well she isn’t a part of his family however she will always be treated as such since she is Alice’s bodyguard and double. She protects Alice by hiding her in plain sight. To make sure they get Alice they have to take Nicole too. She is treated like another member of the family because she essentially is because she is Alice and Alice is her. Only those who know them both well enough can tell them apart.” Elliott then asked, “Should you be telling us this.” Kay shrugged and said, “As long as you don’t try and kidnap her it should be fine. However, if you try you will be dealing with me, not Nicole, but I trust you wouldn’t.”
Elliott smiled a little and said, “It’s a good thing we wouldn’t do that then.” Kay smiled and said, “That’s why I have no problems telling you.” Kay looked at the stars as they walked and her smile faltered for a second as her mind drifted back to her engagement.
