Dillon pushed him towards his room and said, “Then get to packing.” Dillon was really just trying to get Elliott away from Kay so he could ask how Elliott was doing after hearing she was going to be getting married in a month.
By now, all of Elliott’s troop knew Elliott was in love with Kay most of them had known he liked her before she came to their troop, but now it was clear how much he cared about her and they were all worried about what would happen now. They agreed that Dillon would be the one to talk to Elliott for the troop so, that was what he was going to do. Once in Elliott’s room, Dillon shut the door and asked, “How are you holding up?” Elliott didn’t look at him and just said, “I’m fine.” Dillon Shook his head and said, “That’s bull shit and you know it.”
Elliott didn’t respond just kept packing then Dillon said, “Have you decided to tell her or are you just going to hope she doesn’t go through with it?” Elliott didn’t answer him as he packed, he knew Lucas didn’t want the marriage to happen, but if Kay didn’t decide to not go through with it then she may still do it without them knowing. Dillon caught Elliott’s arm as he tried to walk past and said, “You can’t expect that she won’t go through with the marriage if she doesn’t know how you feel. after all, why not go into a loveless marriage when you don’t know there is someone who loves you.” Elliott pulled his arm free and said, “Stop concerning yourself in this. Why do you care anyway it doesn’t affect you at all so why are you involving yourself?” Dillon said, “because I am trying to keep you from making a huge mistake. Kay is a friend to all of us and so are you. We don’t want to see you two go into loveless marriages.”
Elliott walked out of the room then and headed for the door he wanted out of the conversation. When he got outside Kay was standing with the rest of the troop and had just tied her bag to her horse, they were trying to get information out of her about her engagement. She climbed on her horse and said,
